Cap or Damper Estimate

What We Check at the Chimney Top

Caps and fireplace dampers work best when they are measured for the actual opening and matched to the problem you are trying to solve.

On-site measurement of the flue, crown, chase, or chimney opening
Cap, chase cover, and damper condition check with roof-level photos when accessible
Stainless steel cap options sized to the chimney instead of guessed by phone
Top-sealing fireplace damper review for cold-air drafts, sticky dampers, or heat loss
Mesh and screening recommendation for debris prevention where appropriate
Clear explanation of what a cap or damper will fix and what needs crown, flashing, or masonry work instead

Very happy with the work Franklin did at my house. Came out and gave an estimate and had work done same day. The crew cleaned, capped, pointed three chimneys and added a very stubborn flue connected to the boiler.

I had an emergency situation that needed immediate help. Franklin chimney came the next morning and estimated the job for me. The estimate was totally in line with the research other companies that I had done and Franklin came out the next day to do the job. I am so relieved to have this major problem in my house corrected. They were great communicators, on time, clean, fair, professional, and did a great job I could not recommend them more.

I called Franklin Chimney when I noticed flies coming out of my wood burning stove. Maty was here within an hour. He sent a drone up on my roof and discovered a few holes in the mesh that was easy access for birds or squirrels to enter. He sent 2 guys out the next day. They were friendly, efficient and fast. They removed 4 birds and a squirrel. Put a new cap on chimney and sealed it off with mesh. They were done in about 2 hours. I highly recommend Franklin Chimney....thank you for doing a great job!

Fit-First Protection

A Cap Should Match the Roofline Problem

For many local homes, the chimney top is exposed to wet leaves, heavy rain, damp shoulder seasons, winter wind, and roofline turbulence. A missing or poorly fitted cap leaves the flue open, while a failed damper can make the fireplace feel drafty even when it is not in use. The right visit measures first and separates cap problems from leak problems.

1 Custom Fit

Measured On Your Roof

Caps and dampers are measured on site for older masonry openings, multi-flue stacks, and chase covers.

2 Top Checks

Cap + Damper Together

We check whether the problem is an open flue, a failed damper, a top-sealing need, or another roofline issue.

Proof Before Approval

You see the missing cap, rusted cover, damaged damper, cracked crown, or debris path before approving work.

If the chimney top is open, drafty, damaged, or letting water in, start with an on-site measurement.

Common Questions

Answers Before You Call

A cap protects the chimney opening from rain and debris. A damper controls airflow and heat loss. Many homes need one, not both, so we measure and explain the right option.

It can stop rain entering an open flue. It will not fix failed flashing, cracked crowns, open mortar joints, or porous masonry, so the top-of-chimney check matters.

Yes. On-site measurement is part of the visit, especially for older masonry openings, multi-flue chimneys, and chase covers.

Often, yes. A top-sealing damper can help when the old throat damper is warped, rusty, loose, or not sealing well.

Yes. If the chimney has a chase cover instead of a masonry crown, we can evaluate replacement options and put the scope in writing.
